Spring /Summer update
It’s early May and looking at our schedule its shaping up to be a busy summer and fall. We still have some great dates open so please feel free to contact us for availability.
Spring fishing has been good to excellent for sturgeon with quite a few double digit days. As I write this update fishing is still very good. Water levels are stable with no significant rainfall or freshet.
With only a 64% snowpack in British Columbia we are not expecting a long drawn out spring freshet. Most years water levels will begin rising mid May and last well into July. For 2024 we are expecting a short run off which would mean that by late June early July the water levels will be back to normal flows.
Salmon update – for 2024 we are expecting average returns for 4 out of the 5 salmon species. This is an even numbered year so there will be no Pink Salmon in local waters.
In 2023 we had a record return of 4/1 Chinook runs. These are 5 year old fish that spend 1 year in freshwater then return to ocean to feed and grow. We also had a record return of Harrison Chinook which is our late Fall run. The late Fall Coho we’re also abundant so this October could be amazing for both fly angers and gear fisherman.
